THE

Transparent

The task of this studio was to design a pavilion in the Queen Victoria Garden using parametric software. The form for the pavilion was completed using Kangaroo - a live Physics engine which uses a set of 'goals' and a solver to manipulate a basic fabric. To create the timber gridshell, the timber battens are placed in a grid pattern. Timber is a lightweight material with relatively high spans. Timber is a popular material in the construction of gridshell structures because it allows the creation of unsupported, curvilinear structures. The transparent roofing provides shelter while still maximising light penetration. The use of a transparent roof also allows a sense of visual connection between the interior and the exterior of the pavilion.
